Vintage American Trailer Co to introduce massive data base dedicated to the identification and history of Classic trailer caravans from all over the world from 1900 - 1980

Vintage American Trailer Co announces today that it is shortly to introduce a massive data base Wiki, dedicated to the identification and history of trailer caravan manufacturers from around the world from 1900 - 1980.

The first caravans where built to tow behind motorised vehicles around the turn of the century. Since the birth of the motor car people have had a growing fascination with these portable homes using them for all sorts of things from spare rooms and offices to ice cream parlors. From touring and holiday homes to permanent living accommodation be it mobile or static. Numbers continually swell from year to year. Just like Classic and Vintage Cars these tiny houses on wheels have become increasingly collectible with whole industries springing up to restore and preserve the older models. Some classic Trailers or Caravans that are restored are fetching 10's of thousands of pounds. It is not unusual to see a trailer caravan demand prices as high as £35 - £40 and one was sold recently for in excess of

£120,000 - Thats the price of a house in some parts of this country

One of the problems with classic caravans is that, while there is a lot of information already published, it is fragmented, difficult to find and there is more information in peoples heads and photo archives that is not published anywhere.

The idea behind this Wiki is that it will bring all that information together in one place--------- A huge encyclopedia of classic caravans from all over the world allowing people to identify and learn about these vehicles from a bygone era

The data base is still in its infancy at present but Pete  has collected together a list of over 200 manufacturers including English, American and Austrailian with details of their various models including history on some. It is hoped that this new, invaluable and useful source of information will be ready for launch sometime in March 09

So far this project has met with unpresidented support from classic caravan enthusiasts and organisations alike and has made months of work corolating information possible

Anyone interested in providing information and/or articles etc prior to the launch should contact us using the contacts page. All sources, copyrights, etc are respected
